SAE students had the opportunity to attend the UK Games Expo to hear about the latest industry trends and network with many of the sector’s leading professionals and businesses.
This is one of the biggest tabletop gaming events in the calendar with students from across different disciplines at SAE’s Leamington Spa campus having the chance to attend.
Nathan Flannery, SAE Games Programming and Games Design Lecturer, described how many of the skills students study for video games are equally applicable in tabletop and physical game development.
He said: “Skills that our students learn on their course regarding 3D modelling and sculpting are needed for the development of miniatures for war games, board games and other components that make up products in the physical game industry.”
“Game designers learn valuable skills at SAE that apply equally to both video game development and the design of tabletop games, and the UK Games Expo is a fantastic opportunity to network directly with game designers and producers.”
“Programmers are also in demand by board game studios to take their games into the digital space, through the development of complimentary apps and programs that handle game AI for the tabletop, right up to full-blown digital versions of popular board games available now on platforms like Steam. This year some of our Content Creation students were also involved, as there were plenty of opportunities to network with YouTubers and influencers from across the physical game space.”
The UK Games Expo took place at the NEC, Birmingham and Hilton Metropole Hotel and featured three huge halls full of exhibitors showcasing their games.
SAE students were among over 72,000 attendees estimated to have visited.
