SAE Content Creation students record and produce Sumo Digital podcast

Sumo Digital Podcast 1

Congratulations to SAE Content Creation students who had the chance to record and produce an episode of Sumo Digital’s podcast.

The collaboration came after the games developer contacted SAE’s Leamington Spa team to forge a closer link between their work in the games industry and our students.

Guests included Studio Director Chris Southall, Senior Artist Kyungbo Lee and Character Artist Beccy Collins, with Chris Groves, Sumo Digital’s Senior Community Manager, hosting.

This marks the third podcast in the company’s brand new series and focuses on the forthcoming launch of the game, Stampede: Racing Royale.

Sumo Digital’s Chris Groves attended two working production meetings with the undergraduates ahead of the recording.

In these sessions, he detailed what was required and his hopes for the podcast’s production, including using three static cameras alongside lighting that would illuminate participants effectively as well as align with brand colours of the game, Stampede: Racing Royale.

Liane Green, Course Leader for the Content Creation and Online Marketing Degree, said: “Giving live industry briefs to students, with clients who expect industry standards, is exactly what prepares undergraduates for the world of work. It is also what sets SAE apart from traditional red brick universities.”

“We have gained an insight into what industry wants at the curriculum planning stage, invite undergraduates on campus with the expectation that they are professionals in training and expect professionalism and a desire to build working relationships with potential future employers while studying”.

Chris Groves, Sumo Digital Community Manager, said: “The entire Sumo Leamington team is always keen to make connections with the education sector, and with students interested in all aspects of game development.”

“Personally, as someone who works in the more media and content-driven field of community and social media management, it’s fantastic to see SAE offering a Content Creation course – an area represented less often when considering a career in the games industry.”

“Ever since we pitched the idea of collaborating to record an episode of the Stampede: Racing Royale podcast, to support our studio’s current project, it’s been a wonderful process. All the students did a fantastic job of helping us set up a bespoke recording space, which will help elevate the quality of the podcast for both audio and video formats. My guests were excited to be involved in such a well-organised setup and the recording went so smoothly. We’re very grateful to everyone at SAE Institute who helped bring this to life.”

Huge well done to students Uma Bening, Margret Chimbumu, Oliver Crowe, Max Grenville, Shay Kotun and Tyriece Linton, along with lead audio engineer Jordan Chambers who all supported the production.
