GCSE level A* - C in English 9 - 4 (or equivalent). For students studying in Scotland this is equivalent to National 5, C grade

Non-standard entry routes SAE Institute will accept non-standard entry applications, which do not meet the 72 UCAS points or equivalent, and/or maths/English at level 2 or equivalent as required:
Portfolio of related work - This could include recordings, films, sketch books, a blog or any suitable medium that gives you the best opportunity to show us your creative potential.

Non-UK Applicants
English language requirements Students whose first language is not English will need a qualification that demonstrates competence in English, equivalent to UK GCSE (Level 2) grade 4 (c) or above. Equivalent qualifications can be accepted, where these qualifications have been verified by ENIC and are adopted widely within the UK Higher Education sector, including:

Pearson Test of English (minimum 59 in all subscores)
Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) (minimum grade C)

If you’re keen to start a career in content creation or social media marketing, SAE’s BA/BSc (Hons) Content Creation and Online Marketing degree will get you there much quicker than a traditional university course. Taught over 2 years rather than 3, you’ll learn essential technical and theoretical marketing skills on this content marketing accelerated degree, so you can succeed as a content writer, brand manager or even social media influencer. 

At SAE, you’ll get comfortable using industry-standard software to create your content, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Pro Tools. Across the course, you’ll experience the workflow involved in building a visual brand, from composing and editing to publishing digital content. You’ll also have access to SAE’s excellent facilities to help bring your creative ideas to life, such as podcast studios, green screens, post-production suites, and high-tech Mac labs.

Create your own course

As you take your marketing to the next level, you’ll learn practical skills like website search engine optimisation (SEO), digital image editing and video production. Both individually and in small creative teams with your fellow content creation degree students, you’ll create a large portfolio of creative work which will include websites, photography, podcasts, videos and more. You’ll also collaborate creatively with students from other SAE disciplines, producing engaging audio–video content, honing your interview and post-production techniques, and working with real-life businesses to develop online strategies and campaigns. 

Across your time at SAE, you’ll work closely with SAE’s Experts – talented entrepreneurs, creatives and educators from across the marketing industry. They’ll act as advisers throughout your content creation degree, teaching you how the marketing industry works, and making sure you pick up essential business, legal, financial and entrepreneurial skills. You’ll collaborate with them to structure your Major Project – an in-depth study of your chosen area of interest, planned in Trimester 5 and realised in Trimester 6. 

At the end of your 2 years with SAE, you’ll graduate with an impressive talent for digital storytelling, a head full of practical communications skills, exceptional marketing industry connections and the drive to make it as a successful marketing professional.

What your course structure will look like

The BA/BSc (Hons) Content Creation and Online Marketing course is a 2-year accelerated marketing degree, split over 6 trimesters. Its structure follows 3 distinct stages – each designed to help you develop specific skills. Dividing it this way means you graduate as a well-rounded content marketing professional with a universal understanding of the entire content creation process.

• Stage 1 (T1 and T2) provides a foundation of core technical knowledge.
• Stage 2 (T3 and T4) broadens your skills, exploring new areas of digital marketing.
• Stage 3 (T5 and T6) is all-encompassing, covering every aspect of content creation from conception to completion, including managerial aspects like project management, finance and promotion.
Trimester 1
Start your learning journey by developing fundamental knowledge and invaluable content creation and online marketing skills which will form the basis for your future modules.
User experience, content management and search engine optimisation are all addressed in the first trimester of this innovative content marketing degree, with a focus on writing and creating content for publishing and the web. You’ll build multimedia content creation skills, learn how to set up a content management system and then modify it so it adheres to current user experience and design guidelines.

Across this content creation degree module, you’ll address fundamental aspects of journalism, storytelling and communication, with a focus on photographic storytelling. As you discover the basic skills of composing, editing digital images and the principles of visual language, you’ll also cover core topics around intellectual property and copyright within creative media.

Trimester 2
During your second term, you’ll broaden your scope to work on more complex multidisciplinary projects in accordance with industry-standard marketing practices.
Studying this module, you’ll prepare and facilitate interviews while producing and publishing content, with a particular focus on podcasting. As you develop an understanding of the language and techniques used by interviewers, you’ll learn how to prepare content for publication on the web, becoming effective at using post-production tools for editing.

Exploring a range of video production styles, you’ll get hands-on across the production and post-production stages of a project, learning how to plan and produce a video for different digital marketing purposes.

    Trimester 3
    Across Trimester 3, you’ll undertake a variety of content creation project briefs in a professional working environment using a project-based ‘creative studio’ approach. Creative Studios sees you take part in real-world assessment activities that reflect current digital and social media marketing industry practices – guaranteeing a highly practical educational journey.
    During Creative Studio 1, you’ll apply core practical content creation and online marketing skills you’ve learned to date in a professional workflow environment. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of integrating content within an online environment, examining key considerations around audience engagement and making relevant production choices.

    Trimester 4
    The second Creative Studio term focuses on collaborative practical and technical content creation and digital marketing skills, as you explore areas of professional interest and develop your chosen pathway.
    In Creative Studio 2, you’ll collaborate with peers from other SAE courses and/or real-world businesses to develop engaging online strategies and campaigns. As you continue to develop your understanding of professional equipment, you’ll engage with a selection of business models and the online marketing approaches they require.

    Trimester 5
    As you near the end of your marketing degree, you’ll start to specialise, advancing your skills across your chosen area of the marketing industry by selecting from one of 3 optional modules.
    If you’ve enjoyed the previous 2 Creative Studio modules, you can choose to further develop your skills in this area with Creative Studio 3. Across this module, you’ll identify an area of interest within content creation and online marketing, developing a deep professional knowledge of it in the form of a project.

    Across your subject area, you can choose to undertake a structured industry-based live project or take part in a research project, designed in collaboration with our Experts and digital marketing degree professionals. Whichever option you select, you’ll align your professional development with your future career plans, building a thorough understanding of professional practice in your field.

    Combining creative media practice mastery and evidence-based decision making, you’ll
    develop a proposal for your final Major Project (Trimester 6), which typically focus on aspects of web programming, audio production or audio/visual productions. Get hands on building an online website presence, developing a podcast series or YouTube channel, or exploring other in-depth professional practices of your choosing, with help identifying potential methodologies and outcomes from our Experts.

    Topics could cover:

    • Advanced film production techniques

    • Website programming

    • Advanced audio production techniques

    • Transmedia storytelling

    Across the optional Advanced Specialised Production module, you’ll build on your previous knowledge and skills to create industry-standard work in your chosen area. This can either be through taking part in work placements or engaging in live projects with peers from other SAE disciplines, by undertaking simulated briefs, or by developing your own project. This module is a chance to refine the skills required for your final trimester Major Project, as you create a body of work that showcases your skills in content creation and knowledge of online marketing, building connections with industry professionals along the way.
    This optional module will see you gain a variety of academic and professional skills in preparation for your final Major Project. With support and guidance from SAE’s Experts, you’ll produce your Major Project proposal, learning many new techniques along the way – perfect for future postgraduate studies or entering the world of work.
    Trimester 6
    The final module of this content marketing degree lets you demonstrate the academic and practical skills you’ve developed across your 2 years at SAE via an advanced-level large-scale project.
    During your final trimester, you’ll implement the Major Project you planned, designed and scoped in Trimester 5. This industry-focused module lets you focus on a specialism of your choosing, building your knowledge and skills in this area. Depending on your subject, you can use it as an opportunity to springboard into the content creation industry, establish your own business, or make connections with content creation and digital marketing professionals that may lead to future employment.
