SAE launches competition to celebrate return of live music with chance to win £250 Ticketmaster voucher

30 Apr 2021

SAE UK is excited to announce that following the success of our MIEL competition last month, we have a new competition celebrating the planned reopening of venues on 21 June. We’re giving away a £250 Ticketmaster voucher so that one lucky winner can safely enjoy some live music once life goes back to normal.

It’s no secret that the live events industry has been massively impacted by international travel restrictions and venue closures required as part of the UK and Scottish government’s responses to the COVID-19 crisis.

As Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Awards, said in the BPI ‘All About The Music’ 2021 report: “The damage to our industry was, and is, severe and this was particularly true for the live music sector which was effectively put on hold, to devastating effect for all in its wider ecosystem. Its impact was most felt by those artists who rely on performance for their regular income, which in turn prompted a DCMS Select Committee Inquiry into the Economics of Streaming.  Against this backdrop the wider industry rightly came together to provide financial aid, with Stagehand’s COVID-19 Crew Relief Fund and Help Musicians’ Coronavirus Financial Hardship Fund among the beneficiaries of £1.7m worth of donations coordinated by BPI to charities and organisations supporting artists, managers and venues.”

As well as government funding and support, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen lots of ingenious initiatives launched by budding music business entrepreneurs — including some innovative and immersive platforms that allow people to interact with their favourite artists in videogames, as well as new creator-first platforms such as TikTok and LÜM that empower artists to monetise their content and adjust the way they make a living from their art.

Here at SAE we can’t wait for live music to return which is why we have launched this competition. We know that the music industry is resilient and there’s a real appetite among music fans for a return to live shows — fans everywhere need to come together and support their favourite acts through what has undoubtedly been a difficult time.

SAE launched the Live Lounge series six years ago at our Liverpool campus and they’ve been a big success ever since. Based on the live-recording model that was popularised by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, Live Lounges at SAE are a great way for artists from the local area to show off their sound to our students, staff and their guests. Not only do we have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, but all the footage from the Live Lounge is recorded, mixed, mastered, filmed and edited in-house by SAE students as part of their course.
