SAE Institute helps school students prepare for the world of work with interview practice

23 Dec 2019

SAE Glasgow staff recently helped give students from Jordanhill School a practical experience of a job interview.

The campus provided pretend listings for the roles of Receptionist, and Student Experience Officer, and the students from the school were encouraged to apply, before being invited to the campus for an interview.

The interview panel was made up of Campus Director Tommy Wylie, Programme Coordinator for Audio Production, Nick Roan, and the actual Student Experience Officer, Robyn Austin.

Fourth year student, Daka Zvkere said: “I did my mock interview at SAE institute as part of my school’s mock interview scheme. I saw the job being advertised on the school website and I was interested in the company straight away. I worked in school and wrote a letter application for it. When I arrived at the campus I was a little nervous but the staff were very friendly and encouraging. During the interview I felt a lot calmer, the panel also commended me when I did something well. Afterwards, I got some advice on job interviews that will definitely help me in the future including what to wear and how to conduct yourself during an interview. I learnt a lot from the experience thanks to SAE.”

The applicants showed up on time and were all smartly dressed up for the interview.

The panel gave each of the students feedback on what they did well and points that could improve their chances of being a successful applicant.

Campus Director Tommy Wylie said: “This is something that can be really beneficial to school leavers as it provides the opportunity to get that first interview experience.”

Staff from SAE Oxford also recently participated in mock interviews with students at Heyford Park Free School. Student Recruitment Officer Patrick Greenberg quizzed the students, alongside teachers from the school, on their career ambitions and A-Level choices.

Providing such advice and guidance at organised careers events is just one way in which SAE supports its partner schools’ pupils to pursue professional excellence.
