SAE is looking forward to hosting a virtual masterclass with video game Sound Designer Mariana Botero on 15 September.
In the SAE Extra masterclass, which takes place from 6.00 - 7.30 pm on Tuesday 15 September, Mariana will provide an overview of the different components and careers available in game audio, as well as helpful tips on how to break into the video games industry.
Mariana has worked on a number of high profile AAA video games as a Sound Designer, including Star Wars: Battlefront II, Battlefield V, and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.
Mariana is originally from Medellin, Colombia, and she went to a German school. She has done everything from being a bartender and a pastry chef to being stranded in the middle of the jungle surrounded by gorillas while recording location audio. Since then, she’s been fortunate enough to live in several different countries where she discovered new audio recording techniques, designed sound for award-winning AAA and indie video games, and found a passion for technical audio design.
The session falls in the first week of the new trimester, giving the September freshers a flavour for the industry expertise that comes with studying at SAE, the home of creatives.
SAE London Audio Production lecturer Jamie Stonehouse said: “Opportunities to speak directly to the audio department of a AAA title do not come around often, I cannot wait for our students to benefit from Mariana’s knowledge and expertise. Students often ask how to get a foot into the Game Audio industry, and events such as this can give you first-hand advice on how to do just that!”
We interviewed Mariana for our ‘SAE Industry Insight’ interview series earlier this year, where she spoke a bit about her work with Criterion Games. In that interview, she said: “Always do your best. If your job is to mop a floor, make sure that floor is the cleanest. If your job is to make coffee, make the best coffee ever. Put your best foot forward. That is something that I apply to every job I have and I think, might have been something that made me stand out.”
We’re looking forward to getting more tips and tricks from Mariana on how to stand out in the competitive video game industry.
The event will be hosted securely on Zoom and all registrants will receive a link via email to join the event.
