SAE UK invites you to learn from professional script writer Ian Pike, as he talks through his 26 rules of writing.
About this Event
Join us as we welcome professional scriptwriter, Ian Pike for our next virtual SAE Extra.
This masterclass pools from scriptwriter Ian Pike's experiences across comedy, drama and animation. He will share the rules and tips he has accumulated over 26 years of working with top producers, broadcaster, editors, directors and fellow writers. Covering narrative structure and storytelling, plotting, character, dialogue, beginnings, endings, working with theme, avoiding cliches, self-editing and just about every facet of writing.
Aimed primarily at screenwriters but there will still be plenty for writers in any medium or across any genre. This is a chance to learn from the coal face of television and film, to ask questions and hopefully get a few insights into how to get work in the profession and sell work.
Ian Pike has been writing professionally for over 25 years and will share his experiences, insights and tips gleaned from working across just about every broadcast genre, as well as published books for children. These will take the form of his rules of writing which have been collected and honed, working on continuing dramas, soaps, chat shows, animation, sitcoms, sketch shows, adapted horror stories and commissioned original work, as well as long running prime time programmes. Some of his career highlights include six years on Hollyoaks, writing an original comedy drama for Armstrong and Miller, a sitcom for Angela Griffin and Stephen Graham, the BBC 3 series The Fear and at the moment he can be found working on the current series of Have I Got News For You, with two original sitcoms in development.
This masterclass is not just aimed at anyone looking to write a film or screenplay but is equally suited to anyone considering writing a script in any genre. Ian has travelled the world talking about his work, recently visiting Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta and Kuala Lumpur.
