SAE London Film students create content for Path to Success

SAE Film students support Path to Success charity event.

Congratulations to a group of SAE London Film Production students who filmed content at a fundraising event for charity, Path to Success.

The organisation hosts an annual Wheelchair Basketball Challenge where teams of able-bodied players learn to play wheelchair basketball on wheelchair from elite players and Paralympians.

This year, the event was held at SportsDock in East London University with three SAE students helping to capture content.

The students filmed warm-up drills, races, team huddles, and the fast-paced action of the games. They also filmed interviews with representatives from each group, capturing their reflections and reactions to the experience and prize ceremony.

Theresa Altmeyer, London Campus Support Technician and Film Production alumni, supervised the project.

She said: “Experiences like this are incredibly valuable for film students. They offer a real-world glimpse into what working in the industry entails – from planning through to delivery of edited content. Students get to engage with clients, understand expectations, and develop the adaptability needed to film in fast-paced, unpredictable environments.”

“Because they’re still learning, events like these create a supportive space where students can experiment, problem-solve, and grow -while still being seen as professionals-in-training, this gives them space to make mistakes as well. Photographers from outside of the university also attended the event. Collaborating with external photographers and creatives also gave them the chance to network, as well as discuss and observe different working styles.”

Continuing, Theresa said: “Most importantly, this was a heartwarming and eye-opening event. For the students and myself, it was their first time engaging so closely with the world of disability sport. To me the day highlighted the power of filmmaking – we are not just there to capture action, but to tell stories that matter. It’s a privilege to be part of something that makes a difference, and it’s experiences like this that inspire students and hopefully help shape their creative identities.”

Tanvir Singh Ghuman was one of the students involved in capturing content and filming at the event.

He said: “I had a great time capturing the Path to Success event. It was incredibly inspiring to see the Paralympians and hear them share their journeys. Being part of such a positive and motivating environment was a real privilege.”

“Honestly, I thought it would be a really stressful event to shoot, but everything went smoothly, thanks in large part to Theresa for managing everything so well. A big thank you to SAE for giving me the opportunity to be involved in such a meaningful event.”

Well done to all students involved!
