SAE students work on Film London short

Three SAE students have swapped our London studios for a professional film set after working on a new short commissioned by Film London.

Produced for London Calling - Film London’s annual programme which nurtures the capital’s most promising breakthrough talent - James and Alex Alexandrou’s psychological thriller titled Rabbits, tells the tale of two siblings who believe they are the only ones left in the world.

Aspiring filmmaker and SAE student Ollie Hopkins, described his time on set as a great experience.

“The whole cast and crew were very welcoming and were friendly and professional at all times on set,” he told SAE.

“The production team were interested to get to know me, and I them - they were very helpful when answering questions that I had about the production, their roles and the industry in general. It was a long weekend, but it was such a good production to be part of - the footage that they were capturing on the day was such high quality."

The film’s producer James Alexandrou, also had positive feedback about the breadth of talent our students displayed, telling SAE "I was thoroughly impressed."

London Film Coordinator James Clarke believes this new connection will only enrich students' storytelling experiences.

"There's so much value in our students getting on board high quality projects that allow them to not only sharpen their skills and understandings but also help nourish their networking opportunities. It's the kind of involvement that sends the message that SAE's students have a great deal to offer and that there is a filmmaking industry out there that they can pursue with focus and energy."

Previous films produced by London Calling have gone on to feature at Sundance, Tribeca and the Berlin International Film Festival.
