Music Business students go backstage with legendary Ska Punk band

10 Oct 2016

Students studying on the BA Music Business programme were given the VIP treatment on Thursday 6 October when they got to meet American Ska Punk band Less than Jake in London.

Originally from Florida, the band formed in 1992 and named themselves after drummer Vinnie Fiorello’s dog Jake, who was treated better than everyone else in the band, so everything was “less than Jake”.

Currently on a European tour, the band kindly gave SAE students exclusive backstage access to their Brixton Academy gig.

Music Business student and EGM Radio host Jamie Stephenson has played the band’s tracks for the past couple of weeks and had the pleasure of interviewing them before they took to the stage.

Jamie commented:

"Getting the opportunity to interview Less Than Jake at the O2 Academy in Brixton was absolutely awesome. It wasn't something I was familiar with doing; it was my first time interviewing a band for my Breakfast Show and I'll never forget it!"

Music Business Tutor Lee Erinmez commented on the importance of this kind of opportunity for students:

“Less than Jake gave our students an insight into the logistics and importance of touring in a music industry that has seen a huge decline in sales. Students looked at how to successfully brand a tour and the key people involved in making the events successful.”

The band will next play at the o2 Ritz in Manchester, finishing the European leg of their tour in Austria.

To hear the interview with the band in full, tune in to EGM Radio this Friday at 8am with host Jamie Stephenson.
