How to make the most of UCAS fairs

30 May 2017

      1. Download the exhibition guide

Visit the UCAS website and download the event and floor plan for the higher education exhibition you’re attending. This will help you plan your time and allows you to view available seminars.

     2. Shortlist universities and institute you’d like to visit

If you’re not sure, write down what subjects you’re interested in and research which institutes offer relevant courses.

     3.   Prepare questions

Think about what you want to know and what’s important to you. For example, do you want to stay close to your home? Do you want work experience built into the course?

Thinking about these questions will help you when comparing options later on.

      1. Ask questions

UCAS exhibitors are used to answering a whole range of questions about uni life so don’t be afraid to ask - that’s what they are there for.

     2. Collect a prospectus

Make sure you grab a prospectus from any exhibitors that take your fancy, and if they really impress you, why not sign up for information so you can learn more.

      1. Read through prospectuses and research

Have a debrief and browse through some of the prospectuses you collected. You can even start a pros/cons list and write down any questions you still have.

     2. Attend an Open Day

Before applying, it’s imperative that you attend an Open Day to see whether the institute and its campus is suited to you. It’s also a great opportunity to meet current students and lecturers and gain first-hand information about the course on offer.
