Fresh talent emerges at Liverpool’s Battle of the Bands

22 Apr 2016

Liverpool’s finest 13-17 year olds raised the roof of the iconic Cavern Bar at this year’s Battle of the Bands competition, sponsored by SAE.

The Cavern is as iconic in the music world as Luke Skywalker’s light sabre is in the film world. Naturally you’d think that performing there would include serious amounts of potentially crippling jitters… But not to these young professionals who turned up on a freezing cold day in Liverpool to perform their hearts out. With the hope of winning a professional recording session in our studios, ten bands, three tracks each and zero stage fright made it a tough call for the judges.

Ready to judge the battle were SAE Liverpool’s very own James McCormick, Graham Lysaght and Adam Lowe who said:

"The level of talent from people so young was surprising. To see groups of youngsters approaching their music with a maturity and professionalism as we saw that day was remarkable. This city has so much talent and I’m sure that we will be seeing many of the performers on the scene again in the future."

Winning top prize went to none other than Heavy Peanut and The Roving Dudes. But it was more than just their epic name that impressed the judges…

Adam said:

“They fused strong funk elements with modern rock and performed really well as a band. They had a great attitude towards music and performance so the choice was really easy.”

The guys spent an entire day immersed in our professional studios where Adam produced, recorded and mixed their best track ready for distribution to their eagerly awaiting fans. Check it out here!

From all of us at SAE, a massive well done to all of the competing bands.
