Three SAE Oxford Music Business students have been working tirelessly over the last 11 weeks to organise their hardcore music event. All sharing a love for the genre, Robert Brooks, Josh Barton and Agata Szmurło bring us the launch of OXCORE on Wednesday 29 November at The Wheatsheaf in central Oxford at 8pm.
The concept behind the event is about bringing the hardcore genre to Oxford. “We identified that there isn’t much hardcore music in Oxford, so we wanted to create a show to tackle that issue”, Robert tells us.
Featuring local bands Contek, Resolve and Worry, the event has already created quite the buzz with OXCORE already a widely recognised name amongst Wheatsheaf regulars, many looking forward to the launch next week.
In terms of the skills learnt from studying the Music Business programme at SAE Oxford and organising this event, the team commented:
“We learnt quite a lot of event management skills, like doing risk assessments. A lot of things wouldn’t have been taken into consideration without us doing it in the module beforehand.”
Steve McCarthy, Music Business lecturer talks about the wider benefits of the students organising this event:
“By putting on a small event you can see how it can grow into a bigger event planning opportunity. This activity looks into different areas of project management, with links to promotion, social media marketing/influencing, as well as aspects of tour management and agency booking, which all relate to the live industry.”
Setting the date for the event, booking the venue and arranging the line-up was a challenging experience for the OXCORE team as there aren’t many hardcore bands in the area. But despite their first choice of band being unavailable for the launch, they are extremely keen to play at an OXCORE event in the new year, so Robert, Josh and Agata are already in talks about potentially running a second event.
Passionate about the music, the students are very excited for the launch next week which has the potential to develop into a regular event celebrating the hardcore genre in Oxford.
