Bio
Sound As Meaning
Giulio Matheson is a London-based multimedia artist, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist producer whose work explores sound as a communicative and artistic force. His practice spans interactive sound installations, music production and performance, with a particular focus on sonic arts.
Giulio is especially interested in how sound can translate complex scientific and environmental data into immersive, emotional experiences.
Creative Practice
One of Giulio’s most notable projects, SoniContamination, transforms real-time water quality data into evolving soundscapes. The work blends technology and art to raise awareness of environmental degradation, inviting audiences to engage with data through listening rather than observation.
Alongside sound art, Giulio works extensively in music production and sound design, contributing to short films, promotional content, television projects, and releases by emerging artists. His roles often span producing, recording, mixing and mastering.
Performance And Collaboration
Giulio is also an active performer: vocalist and guitarist for Skull Above the Cannon, and one half of the acoustic duo Beija Flor, collaborating with Alessandra Pirrone.
Guiding Sonic Explorers
As a lecturer, Giulio encourages experimentation, curiosity and cross-disciplinary thinking. He supports students in pushing the boundaries of sound – not just as music, but as a medium for communication, interaction and social reflection.
