Directing collaborative stories
Dez Gray is a Senior Lecturer in Film at SAE London with a career spanning theatre, film and television. Having worked with some of the most recognisable names and production companies in the industry, Dez brings decades of practical experience and a deep love for storytelling to the classroom.
Industry Experience
Dez has collaborated with Working Title, the BBC, Fragile Films, La Plante Productions and Bentley Productions, working alongside talents including Tom Hardy, Paul Bettany, Bill Nighy, Sienna Guillory, Charles Dance, Trevor Nunn, and Richard Attenborough. His extensive on-set experience has shaped his understanding of what it truly takes to bring stories to life – teamwork, trust and precision.
Creative Focus
For Dez, filmmaking is about people. He believes the magic happens when a team of creatives come together, each contributing something unique to create something greater than any individual could achieve. That collaborative energy drives both his professional practice and his approach to teaching.
Guiding Creatives
With a BA (Hons) in Theatre Directing and professional training from ScreenSkills in succeeding as a 2nd Assistant Director, Dez combines creative intuition with technical know-how. His teaching style is grounded in honesty, experience and a genuine passion for helping students navigate the realities of the film industry.
