Stories Without Scripts
Aleksandra Markovic is a documentary filmmaker and lecturer with a deep passion for non-scripted storytelling. Her work explores powerful human themes including human rights, immigration, art and animal welfare, using documentary film as a tool for empathy, visibility and social impact.
Her practice spans long-form documentary editing, directing and independent research-led projects, giving students a grounded understanding of how real stories are shaped on screen.
Industry Experience
Before moving to the UK, Aleksandra spent over a decade working in Croatia’s broadcast television industry. She produced and directed non-scripted content for major broadcasters, contributing to internationally recognised formats including Come Dine With Me, Kitchen Nightmares and Big Brother.
She has edited and co-edited multiple feature-length documentaries while continuing to develop her own original documentary work.
Creative Recognition
Aleksandra has served as a film juror for:
- Immigrant Film Festival (Washington D.C.)
- Best Editing at the IDA Documentary Awards (2022 – 2025)
- Fajr International Film Festival (Iran)
- Dhaka International Film Festival (Bangladesh)
Reflecting her expertise in both storytelling craft and critical evaluation.
She was additionally a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Women in Cinema.
Aleksandra also holds an MA in Documentary Practice from Queen Mary University of London.
