Jacob Crossley
Independent Filmmaker
Bio
SAE Liverpool Film Production alumnus Jacob Crossley has channelled his passion for storytelling into an inspiring independent filmmaking career, culminating in the release of his debut feature film, The Star That Fell From The Sky.
Since graduating in 2020, Jacob’s creative journey has taken him across the globe, gathering experiences that continue to shape his work as a filmmaker. Before returning to film full-time, he explored a range of industries including hospitality, interior design, commercial work, and freelance photography and videography – experiences that broadened his perspective and informed his artistic voice.
Jacob’s wanderlust and curiosity inspired him to travel extensively, immersing himself in new cultures and collecting the stories that would later influence his writing and directing. Those years of exploration ultimately led to The Star That Fell From The Sky, an ambitious independent feature written, produced, and directed by Jacob himself.
Filming took place between July 2024 and January 2025, bringing together a passionate creative team that shared his vision. After a meticulous post-production process, the film premiered in October 2025 at the historic Plaza Cinema in Crosby. The sold-out screening was met with an enthusiastic response from audiences and marked the culmination of two years of hard work, persistence and creative growth.
Now entering the international film festival circuit, The Star That Fell From The Sky represents the realisation of Jacob’s long-held dream to bring his stories to the screen and marks an exciting new chapter in his filmmaking career.
Some of Jacob’s career highlights include:
- Writing, producing and directing his debut feature film The Star That Fell From The Sky
- Hosting a premiere event at the Plaza Cinema, Crosby, attended by industry peers and local creatives
- Building a global network of collaborators through independent film projects
- Developing a unique visual storytelling style shaped by extensive world travel
SAE Liverpool provided Jacob with the technical foundation and creative confidence to realise his vision as a filmmaker. The hands-on approach to learning, combined with access to professional production facilities, gave him the skills and discipline to manage a large-scale project from concept to completion.
He credits SAE’s collaborative learning environment with refining his production management and teamwork skills — essential elements that guided him through the making of his first feature. The mentorship and encouragement from lecturers offered both practical guidance and the belief that his creative goals were achievable.
Jacob’s advice for future SAE students is:
“Stay committed to your vision and don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Every creative journey comes with challenges, but perseverance, curiosity and collaboration are what turn those moments into lasting success.”
