From SAE Glasgow to launching an audio tech company
SAE Glasgow Audio Production alumnus Danial Kooshki is building a unique career at the intersection of music, sound design, and audio technology, combining over two decades of musical experience with advanced software development.
After graduating in 2025, Danial went on to found Vexon Audio Ltd, an audio software company focused on developing tools that enable musicians and producers to shape sound in more expressive and creative ways.
Before joining SAE, Danial had already spent years working as a musician, composer, and bass and guitar player, with a strong background in music production, performance, and sound design. His decision to study at SAE was driven by a desire to deepen his technical understanding of sound and explore how music could connect with modern audio technology.
From musician to audio developer
During his time at SAE, Danial developed a strong interest in signal flow, analogue systems, and digital signal processing. Understanding sound as both a physical phenomenon and a digital construct transformed his approach, shifting his focus from purely creative work into technical development.
He began experimenting with audio tools using Max MSP, building early prototypes that explored new ways of shaping sound. As his skills developed, he moved into C++ and the JUCE framework, with the goal of creating professional level audio software.
With guidance from his lecturers, particularly Orvar, Danial began developing a hybrid reverb plugin as part of his coursework. What started as a learning project evolved into a fully realised product through continuous feedback, iteration, and testing within real studio environments.
Alongside this, his final project explored AI based sound processing, focusing on transforming audio into a unified timbre. This work reflects his ongoing interest in combining emerging technologies with creative sound design.
Launching Vexon Audio
Building on this foundation, Danial established Vexon Audio Ltd and released his first commercial plugins, Poly Shimmer and Mirra.
He designed and developed the products from the ground up, including DSP, user interface design, cross platform deployment, and distribution. The plugins were launched to an international audience through platforms such as KVR Audio, marking his transition from student to audio entrepreneur.
A key part of this process involved testing and refining the tools in real creative environments, working closely with musicians in SAE studios and receiving feedback from both students and lecturers. This collaborative approach helped shape the final products and ensured they met real world creative needs.
Seeing his work move beyond personal projects and into the hands of users has been one of his most defining achievements, confirming his direction in combining music, technology, and product development.
Building confidence through hands on learning
Danial credits SAE with helping him connect previously self taught knowledge into a structured and professional understanding of audio.
The course enabled him to move beyond trial and error, developing a deeper understanding of how sound is created, shaped, and applied across music, film, games, and other media.
Equally important was the collaborative environment. Working alongside other creatives and receiving feedback from lecturers such as Orvar and Scott helped refine his ideas and push his work towards real world application.
As his focus shifted towards plugin development, this support played a key role in helping him turn technical exploration into tangible products and a viable business.
Advice for future students
Danial believes success at SAE comes from taking initiative and pushing beyond the basics.
“SAE gives you the tools, the studios, and the support, but what you gain depends on how far you’re willing to explore your own ideas.”
His advice is to stay curious, experiment, and follow ideas through to completion.
“Do not limit your learning to what is taught in class. Stay creative, keep exploring, and focus on turning your ideas into something real. That is where real growth happens.”
