Telling Stories With Heart, Humour and Creative Energy
Ashley Dick is a Film Production Tutor at SAE Glasgow, bringing a wide range of experience across documentary, broadcast, social video, animation and creative education.
Her work blends curiosity, humour and strong storytelling, with a focus on helping students find their own creative voice and build confidence across the filmmaking process.
Industry Experience
Ashley has worked across several departments at the BBC, including broadcasts, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Sounds.
Her career highlights include being nominated for a BAFTA, winning the Glasgow Film Animatic Pitch with a surreal and playful idea, directing her first feature documentary, and being recognised on the street from her educational YouTube videos.
For her documentary Thrawn, Ashley interviewed Karen Dunbar, Sanjeev Kohli, Len Pennie and First Minister John Swinney, bringing together distinctive Scottish voices and perspectives.
She has also been invited to speak about her work and coach others by Channel 4, BBC Scotland, Screen Scotland, NFTS and more.

Ashley is inspired by the people around her, her filmmaking peers and the absurdity of real life.
She loves the variety of filmmaking, from meeting new people and building creative communities to using different creative skills across every stage of production.
For Ashley, film is about connection, experimentation and helping stories find the right shape on screen.

Ashley brings a broad creative background to her teaching, with experience across commercial and artistic projects, live action and animation, broadcast and social content, and multiple stages of production.
She enjoys sharing her own experiences with students, helping them understand the realities of the industry while encouraging them to explore their own ideas, interests and creative ambitions.

Fun fact?
Ashley played the cornet as a child and competed in the European Brass Band Championships. She also used to be a member of Mensa, but says she “couldn’t keep up with the social calendar.”
