Tin Frleta

Live Sound Engineer & Event Technician
Liverpool

Bio

SAE Liverpool Audio Production alumnus Tin Frleta has built a burgeoning career as a live sound engineer and event technician, working with prestigious venues and high-profile artists across the UK and Europe.

Graduating in 2023, Tin discovered his passion for live sound during his studies, when a single module introduced him to the technical and creative processes that bring concerts and performances to life. From powering up the mixing desk to hearing microphones come online, he quickly realised this was the area of audio he wanted to pursue professionally.

While still at SAE, Tin gained his first hands-on experience assisting on a Sound City project. Initially hesitant due to his limited experience, he embraced the opportunity, which proved transformative. His early gigs were challenging, but through persistence and dedication he honed the skills required to thrive in live sound, from troubleshooting on the fly to communicating effectively with performers.

By the time he graduated, Tin had earned a strong reputation within Liverpool’s live events community. On his final day at SAE, he interviewed for a casual technician role at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Within weeks, he had secured the position, working alongside SAE alumni and applying his classroom knowledge to high-profile performances across music, theatre, and film.

After several successful years in the UK, Tin returned to his native Croatia, where he now works full-time as a sound engineer and AV technician. His experiences in Liverpool shaped both his technical expertise and professional outlook, preparing him for complex live productions and high-stakes performance environments.

Tin counts his final shift at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, operating the followspot for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, as one of his proudest moments: a symbolic closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. He is also excited about his upcoming role at the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka, which will expand his repertoire and continue his trajectory in live sound.

Tin credits SAE with helping him discover his true passion within the audio industry. “While I enjoyed recording EPs and singles, it was live sound that really captured me – every day brings new challenges and creative opportunities,” he explains. He also notes that SAE’s reputation has opened doors throughout his career; for example, when applying for a role with a major cruise company, he was offered a more senior position after the interviewer recognised his SAE qualification, highlighting the respect the institute commands within the industry.

His advice for future SAE students is simple: immerse yourself fully in the creative scene, seek out every opportunity, and embrace collaboration. “Whether it is meeting artists, working with sound engineers in local venues or collaborating with classmates, every relationship can lead to new opportunities. ”
