SAE London Audio Production alumnus Vivian Robins has built a standout career as the co-founder and driving force behind the digital record label Life For Music – a global platform dedicated to showcasing electronic music talent.
Since graduating in 2020, Vivian has transformed what began as a student passion project into a self-sustaining label with more than seventy releases spanning Drum & Bass, Techno and other electronic genres. Life For Music now reaches thousands of listeners each month, with audiences tuning in from Taiwan, New Zealand, Canada, Chile and beyond.
Vivian oversees the label’s day-to-day operations, including promotion, artist management, distribution, audio editing and financial coordination. Working alongside designer and co-manager Dave, and long-time music promoter Paul – whose radio station Lifefm.tv champions the label’s releases – Vivian has helped establish an efficient and collaborative workflow that keeps the music flowing. The label currently releases new tracks monthly, with plans to increase output, launch events and expand into physical formats such as CDs and vinyl.
One of Vivian’s proudest achievements is seeing Life For Music evolve into a fully self-sustaining international label, consistently covering mastering and artist costs while providing a platform for both established artists and emerging talent. He is excited to continue growing the label, releasing more albums, and producing his own music in collaboration with others.
SAE played a pivotal role in shaping Vivian’s journey, giving him the technical, creative and business foundations needed to run a professional label. While his early audio skills were self-taught, SAE’s hands-on training elevated his expertise to industry standard. The Marketing and Business module, in particular, helped him understand how to build and promote a successful label: knowledge that remains essential in his work today.
Vivian describes SAE as a transformative learning environment that provides the tools, facilities and mentorship required to thrive in the audio industry. The practical, studio-driven approach allowed him to refine his craft and build confidence in both creative and managerial aspects of production.
His advice to future students is simple: start projects early, spend as much time as possible in the studios, and make the most of every module, even the ones outside your comfort zone. He emphasises curiosity, collaboration and experimentation as the cornerstones of creative success. “Push buttons, take risks, and enjoy the process – that’s where real growth happens”.
