Saul Murphy
Film and Television Production Manager & Filmmaker
			Bio
SAE Liverpool Film Production alumnus Saul Murphy has established a thriving career across film and television, working on major productions and creating deeply personal documentary work that celebrates heritage and craftsmanship.
Since graduating in 2020, Saul has built a diverse portfolio spanning feature films, television, and independent projects. His credits include work on the latest Trailer Park Boys feature, collaborating with acclaimed actors Billy Bob Thornton and Robert Sheehan, with part of the production filmed at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Saul has also held key production roles across a range of projects – serving as Line Producer on Our Kid and 2nd Assistant Director on the upcoming feature Amazing Grace. His progression through the production ranks reflects a strong understanding of both creative and logistical aspects of filmmaking, skills first developed during his studies at SAE.
Transitioning into television, Saul has taken on the role of Production Manager for multiple short-form and broadcast projects. One notable recent production, The Walton Project by Hat Trick Productions, is set to premiere in October. He has also contributed as a Runner on various high-profile TV shows, including Simon Needs You – an upcoming Netflix observational series documenting the creation of a new boy band, set to debut this Christmas.
Alongside his professional credits, Saul’s passion for storytelling shines through in his personal work. His documentary The Last Stone Carver has been a standout project, screening at Liverpool Cathedral and selected for the international film festival circuit.
The film explores the life and legacy of Tom Murphy, Saul’s grandfather and a master stone carver whose artistry shaped Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral over half a century. Through interviews, archival footage and personal reflection, Saul crafted a poignant portrait of a man who quietly dedicated his life to a disappearing craft, turning a family story into a timeless tribute to creativity, heritage, and humility.
Some of Saul’s career highlights include:
- Working as Production Assistant on the Trailer Park Boys feature, collaborating with Hollywood and UK talent
- Serving as Line Producer on Our Kid and 2nd Assistant Director on Amazing Grace
- Managing production for Hat Trick Productions’ The Walton Project
- Contributing to Netflix’s upcoming series Simon Needs You
- Directing and producing The Last Stone Carver, screened at Liverpool Cathedral and international festivals
Saul credits SAE Liverpool with giving him both the theoretical foundation and the creative confidence to step into the industry. The hands-on, fast-paced structure of the course helped him develop a broad understanding of production roles, while also nurturing his passion for independent filmmaking.
“The course introduced me to film theory and the basics of filmmaking, but more importantly it gave me the confidence to believe I am a filmmaker with the skills to succeed,” Saul reflects.
His advice for future SAE students is:
“In this industry you must be proactive to succeed. Start today by taking that step and enrolling at SAE – your career in film starts here and now.”
