We spoke to SAE alumna Maggie Koo who studied Audio Production at SAE Oxford and has since directed her creativity and love of the music industry to a career in photography.
She works as a Project Manager with the digital creative agency, Kitty, and also has worked on a number of freelance projects for the likes of NME, BBC, The Guardian, Resident Advisor, London In Stereo, Loud & Quiet, Clash, Kerrang!, Dazed & Confused, Mixmag, Crack and Stencil.
What does your day-to-day work with the digital creative agency Kitty entail?
I work very closely with UI/UX designers and developers. Mainly to develop new content and new designs for different clients.
How did you secure freelance work for the likes of NME, BBC, The Guardian, Resident Advisor, London In Stereo, Loud & Quiet, Clash, Kerrang!, Dazed & Confused, Mixmag, Crack and Stencil?
I’m a very reliable person and I take work from all sorts of clients, regardless of whether it’s my taste. I understand shooting club nights can be exhausting but I always commit to it.
What is the professional accomplishment you're most proud of to date?
To have built up a list of artist contacts from scratch with my commitment to photography.
What do you enjoy about working as an in-house photographer for KOKO and CLF Art Cafe?
Getting to work with the best crews and knowing different people from around the world.
Do you have any advice to current SAE students about launching a career in the creative sector?
I think commitment and passion about what you do is a huge key towards success. And always be a reliable person, then people will automatically think of you next time when there’s a job opportunity.
