AI in teaching
Artificial intelligence is now part of every modern toolbox—but it doesn't replace your craft. At SAE Institute, you'll learn how to use AI in the way it's actually used in practice: thoughtfully, transparently and with a focus on results.
What we mean by AI expertise
1. Industry-oriented rather than ideological
We teach AI tools in theory and practice, specifically in the workflows that are common in the industry. Neither blind hype nor total rejection is helpful—what is needed is an open, professional attitude.
2. Foundation first
Our students develop a solid understanding of the subject and are able to assess quality. This comes from doing things themselves: listening, watching, writing, filming, programming, modeling, calculating.
Examples:
- Audio: Sound, space, artist performance, timing and groove.
- Content Creation: Style and impact of text, images and sound.
- Film: Camera, lighting, image composition, acting, story and timing.
- Game Art / VFX: Anatomy, materials, movement, realistic physics, a sense of aesthetics.
- Games Programming: Logic, languages, architecture, gaming fun and user experience.
- Music Business: Market mechanics, finance, calculation, brand building.
3. Understanding processes – avoiding black boxes
All steps in the creation process are known and can be explained. AI output is tracked, checked, and justified—e.g., in the case of generated code or translations. Control over quality and results is maintained.
4. Craftsmanship + AI instead of craftsmanship or AI
Content is created entirely in-house, and AI is integrated into sub-processes in a meaningful way. AI material can be independently edited, corrected or combined with your own assets.
5. Results matter
Whether handmade, AI-supported, or hybrid: we make our decisions based on quality, goal achievement, and cost-benefit—not convenience. Efficient, clean workflows are our focus.
Our orientation framework for generative AI (Levels 4–7)
Level 4 (first year) – Discover & inspire
AI is welcome as a source of ideas. AI methods may be tried out, but manual workflows remain mandatory.
Level 5 (Diploma) – Targeted use
AI is used where it demonstrably adds value. Its use is reflected upon and justified either verbally or in writing.
Levels 6 & 7 (Bachelor’s and Master’s) – Independent design
Free, responsible use—including generative content. Authorship and process are transparently identified; projects can become larger and more versatile through AI.
What does that mean specifically for you?
- You will learn state-of-the-art tools – embedded in realistic production processes.
- You develop an informed judgment, recognizing the strengths and limitations of AI material.
- You remain the owner of the process: understand, explain, improve.
- You combine craftsmanship with automation without sacrificing quality.
- You document AI use transparently and make decisions in a results-oriented manner.
For us, AI is a powerful tool - not a shortcut. We'll train you to take on responsibility in creative and technical professions, deliver quality, and work confidently, thoughtfully, and productively with AI.
