From playing in bands when he was a young boy and recording tapes in a make-shift basement studio, to gracing the recording studios of Red Bull, to now being Mark Ronson’s full-time Studio Engineer, Ricky Damien has made the transition from student life into industry work within record time. He loves every minute of the late night recording sessions and seeing which famously talented folk walk through Mark Ronson’s door on a weekly basis.
Excelling in his studies and showing a real art for engineering, when scouts called SAE Institute asking for emerging talent, the senior lecturer didn’t hesitate to recommend him for the position. First one in the door and last one to leave, Ricky has already seen the proof of his efforts in the hugely popular Uptown Funk and is looking forward to knuckling down to more intense recording sessions for which he keeps the studio and equipment primed and ready for action.
“I completely refined my studio and audio knowledge at SAE Institute and now it’s being tested and reaffirmed on a daily basis. I absolutely love what I do and without SAE it would not have been possible. Anyone who is hoping to attend school there, be passionate and dedicated and just, learn, learn, learn. There is always something else to find out, play with or tweak in this industry and that’s what keeps it interesting.”
