Who Is Who

Justin 'Kutmah' Mcnulty was born in Brighton, England to an Egyptian mother and Scottish father. Moving to the United States when he was twelve years old, Kutmah grew up in Hollywood, California and ultimately made a name for himself as a talented underground artist & DJ. Intrinsic member of eclectic Los Angeles-based music collective 'Dublab', in 2004 Kutmah launched the seminal club 'Sketchbook', which forged fundamental feet of the now-infamous LA beat scene. In Spring 2010 without advance warning nor any provoking criminal activity, armed US Federal agents entered Kutmah's home, incarcerated him for two months at a New Mexico detention centre under immigration charges, and ultimately deported him to the UK where he currently resides. Since then Kutmah has toured Europe, playing shows with Saul Williams, The Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus, Gonjasufi, Dabrye and others.

Sofie is an artist, curator, record collector, DJ and a talented musician in her own right, being a classically trained instrumentalist, playing the violin and viola since she was four, as well as self-taught on the piano. Her career in music began when she started interning at Stones Throw Records, an American independent music label based in Los Angeles and subsequently got a job. From there she connected with Boiler Room when they booked their first across-the-pond broadcast on the West Coast, that evening warming up the turntables for none other than Dam-Funk, J Rocc and Peanut Butter Wolf. A relationship was born between the two camps that night which ultimately led to her becoming a core member of the team, responsible for hosting, programming, creative direction and merchandise. Sofie hosts her own monthly radio show on London's NTS Radio, playing obscure disco, psych, funk, dusty grooves and rare tape rap featuring all kind of guests. So far, she has shared stages with many DJs and musicians, from Kutmah, Knxwledge, fLako, Teebs, Mndsgn, J Rocc, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk - and these are just a few of them. Most recently, Sofie has dropped a heavy hitting compilation of underground’s best hip-hop and soul via Stones Throw with the SOS Tape. A detailed account featuring 24 tracks from 26 artists, SOS tape serves as a marker point for musicians across the globe. With an otherworldly cover designed by Argentinian-based artist Gustavo Eandi, SOS Tape has just been released also as a double vinyl into the market. A recent composition of hers is featured on the Oslo-based label Mutual Intentions compilation cassette too.
