Οι σπουδαστές και απόφοιτοι των τμημάτων Game Art Animation και Games Programming, ανταποκρίθηκαν στα φετινά The Rookies Awards, στέλνοντας 31 projects.
Μετά από την αναγνώριση στα Top Rankings (2020 Top 20 3D Animation και 2020 Top 50 Creative Media & Entertainment Schools and Colleges in the World) της κορυφαίας πλατφόρμας για νέους δημιουργούς και Games σπουδαστές, The Rookies, την παρουσία της SAE Athens στη σελίδα των The Rookies στα Featured Schools (Η μοναδική σχολή από Ελλάδα), φέτος οι Game Art Animation και οι Games Programming σπουδαστές και απόφοιτοί μας, κλήθηκαν να καταθέσουν τα projects τους στα The Rookies Awards 2021.

Lost In The Darkness των Γιάννη Σούκουλη, Αντώνη Χρονόπουλου και Μάγιας Σκριμπώνη
"A single-player horror experience. In order for the player to survive the events in the manor, they need to maintain their sanity and stay close to light sources as much as possible. The manor is haunted by some unfortunate events that our character has to uncover in order to find out the truth they seek. Lost In The Darkness is in development by three college students. It started as an assignment but later on, we were fascinated by the idea and so we decided that we wanted to make this a full game. "
Afterthought των Γεράσιμου Φιλιππάκου και Βασίλη Δημητρακά
"Afterthought is an RPG/FPS game set in a cyber fantasy universe, giving players the chance to experience the journey of EXO-6000 as a cyber soldier. Set in a cyber fantasy universe, experience from the perspective of EXO-6000, everything that started from an effort to be the best cyber soldier, and resulted to bringing equality and peace in the known universe. From gunfights against spellcasting orcs, to stealth missions and boss fights, Afterthought is set to give you an unforgettable and immersive experience as you progress from mission to mission.
A college project made by 2 programmers within 6 months. We (the developers) had already decided we will continue working on the game even after the submission on the project, and release it where we deem fit. The project had -and still has- a small budget, however we've already managed to recruit several talents for our team. The game is set to release in early access during 2022 Q1."
Νομίζω ότι η φετινή παρουσία μας στα βραβεία The Rookies ως SAE Athens είναι ήδη εντυπωσιακή και ειλικρινά πιστεύω ότι στο μέλλον θα μπορούσαμε να αναδειχτούμε σε μια από τις κορυφαίες σχολές του θεσμού παγκοσμίως (αν δεν είμαστε ήδη). Οπότε, δεν μπορώ παρά να παροτρύνω τους σπουδαστές να αρχίζουν να σκέφτονται εντυπωσιακά και έξυπνα projects για του χρόνου.

"Alexandria of Mount. Athos.This was Dinocrates vision to create a new capital city for Alexander the Great of Macedon.This project was created based on the sketches from the renaissance era,and inspired by the studio Ghibli art style."
DEEP του Νικόλα Τριανταφύλλου Πολλάνη
"Deep is a small exploration game created in Unreal engine 4. "Deep" is inspired by the stories of sponge divers that discovered the Antikythera mechanism and more. The island is created in World creator. From there I exported the tiles for the landscape and the heat maps. I also used the "Fish school system v2" and "Shadersource - Tropical 0" plugins for the fish particles and the waves of the ocean. P.S. Still under construction."

"This project was made as a part of my college exercise. I always was interested in Unreal Engine and its power to capture real-time photorealism. Making a video and playable demo made me understand that I have many things to learn. I really am looking forward to making Archviz projects ore!"

"This is Domus Tenebris, our first 3D animation and environment modeling project! This short-animation film is based on the reconstruction of a cliché, the recreation of a prototype trope that depicts the feeling of the all-time classic, pure, gothic, victorian horror. "Τhis is one of my simulations for April because i wanted to have some practice with phoenix FD and ty flow. I really like Vfx and more specific liquid simulations. Ι struggled a lot with renders because some of the frames took 2 hours. Hope you like it. Cheers."

"This project is my graduation project for my Bachelor's degree in 3D Animation at SAE Institute Athens. Basically the main idea was to find a way to realistically convert a painting into a 3d scene so it can be used for research or to start a new era of Virtual art museums that would portray 3D lifesized paintings. Since i study at SAE Institute Athens its easier for me to look at real life references of the Classical era at the Acropolis Museum so it can help me understand some values and proportions. The research that i did for this project helped me to convert the painting and reconstruct the parts that are not visible."

"This is my World of Warcraft inspired model. My goal with creating this model, was to explore and try to apply a pipeline that a Blizzard character artist would go through. I learned a lot through making this, and I can't wait to apply all that to the next character."

"Here is a stylized environment that I created in Unreal Engine 4 during my education at SAE Athens. I was inspired by the area of Plaka, which is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Athens, and the Overwatch art style."

"This is a animation of a vampire, that I destroy and recreate for the past 2 years in order to learn. This project was a technical challenge for me. I learned to use various softwares in order to produce this animation. I want to see myself as a storyteller with the technical knowledge to produce stories in video games. The Layout of the Level in Unreal 4 I used assets from the Epic's Marketplace in order to make the environment, for the sound and some particles."

"This environment was created for my college in Unreal Engine. At that time I was really into Japanese video games and so I decided to create something similar. I learnt tons of new stuff in this process and I am looking forward to create more environments and really improve my skills."

"Ayaana (means way, path, road in Yakut language) is a 19 year old Evenki girl who lives in the Eastern Siberia. Ayaana a restless and troubled girl who doesn’t know what her path is in life , unlike other people of her race. Ayaana belongs to the tribe of Evenki who rely on Shamans."
The Forge των Νίκου Τζιώτη, Ιωάννας Σύρμα και Βασίλη Μητσόπουλου
"The Forge is a group Project made us, three classmates, for last Semester's Assignment. The idea was to build an environment, which could combine industrial and organic shapes. For example, our main platform resembles a circle but is made out of basic, rectangular, industrial shapes. We also build the terrain in a way to hug the forge, so it would seem that they are merged together. We also wanted the player to feel pressured by the scenery so we doubled the size of the walls and doors. Our Aesthetics is heavily inspired by "DOOM", "Dead Space", generally abandoned factories, and a whole bunch of steampunk images merged into a moodboard."

"KiraMa is my first complete game ready character,made as my third semester project on SAE Athens.It was also my first complete sculpt and overall aimed to acquire the knowledge and experience on the pipeline of game ready character creation from start to finish.My aesthetic references were 'Ghost in the Shell' Movies and 'Alita:Battle Angel (2019)'. Also I took inspiration from the Netflix series 'Altered Carbon' on world placement on a future era with human consciousness been able to transferred between artificial bodies and I wanted the viewer to be unsure about the character been a robot or human consciousness inside the cyborg."
Lailla: The fallen fairy του Παναγιώτη Δρίμα
"Lailla is a fallen fairy princess that has lost her original wing to the grid of her sister to the throne, and she tries to take revenge on her with her new magic abilities by creating a new magical pair of wings and regaining her armor. This is the first game-ready character that I made on a project for SAE Athens that follows the pipeline, and as the main reference, I have used a sketch of a friend blended with the story of the fallen angel."
Beothor, Guardian of the ancinet ofrest του Φραγκίσκου Χαράλαμπου Δαγκλίδη
"An ancient guardian of stone and wood emerges. Being a conduit of great magical power and life, The tree of Life needed a protector to keep it safe for the hands of demons, warlocks and other malevolent creatures. The ancient races combined their skills and abilities to create that defender. The creation was named Beothor, an enternal guardian of the tree of life and protector of the wood around it."

"Lor was once a simple farmer living with his family in a small house somewhere in Italy in the middle ages. He was murdered crueltly by some men and then returned from the dead to take his vengeance."
The Hound of the Underworld της Κατερίνας Στάνη
"This character is my interpretation of the mythical Cerberus keeper of the underworld's gates. It constitutes my very first complete sculpt and game ready character. It was a project on my third semester on SAE Athens. My character's aesthetic is supposed to give a dark and spooky feeling. The reference I used was a mix of rat and a famine with abnormal long limps and tail."

"This is my first college full done work. Seith is a cyberpunk character which is game - ready and have full potentials for animation."
Zombie Toad της Μυρτώς Αρβανίτη
"Originally created as part of a school project at SAE Athens, this is my first complete, game ready character. My love of horror and creature design led me to create a carnivorous toad that's been overtaken and zombiefied by an equally predatory parasitic mushroom species inspired by the creepy fungi of our world. The initial concept sketch of the creature was based on the Fowler's toad, while the appearance of the mushrooms were based on the Pholiotina rugosa and their behavior was based on the parasitic Ophiocordyceps unilateralis that infect and have a "zombifying" effect on carpenter ants."
