Here at SAE UK we are keen to help inspire people to take up a new skill, and what better time to do that than in National Coding Week (16 - 22 September)?
Join our Games Programming lecturer, Karsten Vermeulen as he hosts two exciting games workshops on Tuesday 17 September: 'How to make a mobile game with Unity' and Thursday 19 September: 'Make a 2D game in 10 easy steps'
The aim of National Coding Week is to give people the opportunity to learn some new digital skills. We are not expecting you to become a coder after one session! For many people it takes years of practice and experience, but these taster sessions can be the first step on a journey into a digital business or digital career.
The digital economy has grown enormously in the past 8 years and clusters of digital businesses are springing up everywhere. It has been reported that 50% of digital product developers are self-taught and as many as 83% of app developers have taught themselves.
There are now more people working in tech jobs in the South East of England than the whole of California but there is a skills shortage and many adults could contribute to the digital economy if only they had the confidence to get started.
Thursday 19 September
"Make a 2D game in 10 easy steps"
What we'll do:
- Use a custom-built game engine, called Handmade, to create a simple 2D game
- Learn to write C++ code
- Understand the basics of a game engine
- Make use of sprites and animations
