Masterclass: Getting Great Actors: The Art and Strategy of Casting

Everyone knows that you need great actors to make a great film, but how do you go about getting them, especially if you don’t have a ton of experience? Join award-winning Austrian/American filmmaker Jason B. Kohl as he discusses the art of casting both professional and non actors, as well as how best to approach agents, managers, casting directors, and the differences between the European and American industries. As part of the seminar, you will also learn how to pitch and design your projects to maximize their appeal to actors. Instructor Jason B. Kohl has worked with actors who’ve been nominated for Emmys and Gotham Awards, and who’ve appeared in films and TV shows including Fight Club, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, The Girlfriend Experience, Russian Doll, Mad Men, Gotham, and many more. Hear real world stories, coupled screenings of award-winning short films, to help you learn how to cast and approach actors the right way, and how to get them to appear in your projects!  Jason B. Kohl is an American-Austrian writer/director and was nominated for the student Oscar with his film "The Slaughter". Since 2013 he has been teaching directing, screenwriting, editing and production at various film schools such as UCLA, Michigan State University... His first book, "Film School: A Practical Guide to an Impractical Decision" was published by The Focal Press in 2015. He successfully completed his master's degree in directing at the UCLA Film School in Los Angeles. His latest feature film is called "New Money" and is available as Blu-Ray.
