Yes, the academic degree "Master of Arts" is granted by the Folkwang University of the Arts and is therefore state recognized.
Can admission to the Master's program also take place without a university degree but with correspondingly long professional experience?
Unfortunately, this is not possible, a university degree with at least 180 ECTS is required.
Is work experience mandatory for this degree program?
No it is not. In addition to the artistic aptitude, only the professional qualifying university degree is a prerequisite for admission.
Is it also possible to study the study part-time?
Since the compulsory modules take place in block form at the SAE Institute in Bochum on the weekend and the courses for the elective module can be chosen freely, it is possible to pursue a job in addition to the studies. If necessary, discuss this with your employer.
What is needed to apply?
To apply for a place to study, you need a written idea for an artistic project. Toll is also, if there is already a portfolio to your previous work. Together with your CV and your BA certificate (or comparable degree) you send the idea and possibly the portfolio by email or post to the course director Florian Hartlieb.
How is the creative aptitude test structured?
This is a colloquium in which you present your project idea to a panel of examiners consisting of members of the SAE Institute and the Folkwang UdK. Of course, in this colloquium, you can also present your existing artistic work to give the Commission an insight into your work to date.
Is it advisable to move to the Ruhr area for your studies?
This depends primarily on the extent to which you would like to use the courses of the Folkwang UdK as part of the elective module. You can attend the elective courses at the SAE Institute by appointment at one of our German locations. A stay near SAE Bochum and Folkwang UdK will certainly facilitate your studies. However, living outside of NRW is not necessarily a problem if there is an SAE institute in your area, and it is OK to come to Bochum once a month for a block seminar weekend.
