sound:frame Workshop with VR-Star Barnaby Steel
Vienna on 21 November 2018 Visual Reality artist Barnaby Steel from the London Collective attended a workshop at thew new campus of the SAE Flagship Campus in Vienna.
Steel spoke about the technological, artistic, aesthetic, and narrative elements of virtual reality. The co-founder of the well-known London creative studio did not just discuss his personal experience in his creative work. He also talked about the future of virtual realities, its current and future possibilities.
SAE Camous Manager Christian Ruff was also impressed with the guest from the UK: "This gives our students the chance to meet in person with one of the most significant Virtual Reality artists working today. We are proud that the SAE Media Campus is a platform for the VR scene. We also plan to expand our activities in this field next year. This is another example of students being able to interact with the best people active in the field they are studying, to learn from each other, and to network... all of which will be valuable for their future projects. New Experiences and Forms of Expression
Barnaby Steel's works combine experimental genres with obscure forms of art, science and techniology to create his unique visual language which express his new experiences and forms of expression." His best-known works include vides for U2 or light-painting works for McClaren. Together with the London Kollektiv, Barnaby Steel has won the Audi Innovation Award and the Tribeca Film Festival Storyscapes Award for Innovation in Storytelling. His latest work is called Treehugger:Wawona and sees virtual reality as a window into a world beyond the senses in which to acheive a deeper connection with nature.
European SAE Flagship campus in the Heart of Vienna
For audio, film, web design, games animation, music business or cross media production - the SAE Institute Vienna has been, since 1987, the top venue for creative young talents preparing for their future. There are places for 800 students at the Europan SAE's new flagship campus in central Vienna.
A creative hub measuring 2,900 square meters have been erected as a creative hub in the heart of Vienna where media and cultural creatives can interact on a daily basis with graduate, students and creatives on a daily basis where can encounter, inspire and support each other. In addition to a high-tech education, there is also a focus on networking with vienna's music, cultural, art and start-up scenes. The SAE modern media campus is located next to a co-working space which students can use to transition to professional life and also to make useful contacts with other creatives.
