Here at SAE, we love sharing recent success stories about our talented alumni, and this week we’re singing high praises of Liverpool’s Jay Leahey.
The Audio Production graduate was recently awarded a one-year internship with the acclaimed Parr Street Studios - home to Coldplay’s first two albums, not to mention an expansive client list including Drake, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and The Smiths.
“After I graduated from SAE with a 2:1 in Audio Production, I began looking for places to contact with regards to finding work,” Jay told SAE in a recent interview.
“The biggest studio around here is Parr Street, so I thought I'd try there. I remember a guest lecturer Jon Withnall, who used to come to SAE said he used to work for Parr Street and had some valuable information about how they work, so I contacted him and asked if he knew how the internship process worked.”
Mr Withnall got in contact with our talented alumnus and told him he’d put him touch with Parr Street Studios.
“And sure enough, later that day, I got an email from the manager asking me to send a cover letter and CV to him.”
One successful interview later and SAE is proud to announce Jay has been awarded one of the two available internships at the Grammy award-winning studio.
We were also pretty chuffed to hear of his experience studying with us.
“I loved my time at SAE,” Jay said.
“I made great friends and had the chance to work on some amazing equipment. Parr Street actually uses the exact same Neve VR60 desk we used at Liverpool. Not to mention the education I received was top notch.”
“I loved how easy going the lecturers were. They were always ready to help with an assignment and provide a bit of banter at the same time!”
SAE would like to congratulate Jay on his new position and wish him all the best as he carves his career in the music industry.
