When you have to nip back from LA to the UK during Oscar week to pick up your BAFTA it’s pretty much a dead cert that the world is your oyster. And so it is for SAE Institute Alumni Mark Paterson, probably the most humble man on the planet and one so in tune with his career choice that once the glow of the after parties had worn off it was straight back into the studio to begin work on the next project.
Mark’s story is an inspiration to anyone entering SAE with dreams of working their way up to working on multi-million dollar productions with industry greats.
His CV of film work reads like any self respecting person’s personal DVD collection and that’s not even mentioning the countless music tracks he’s also worked on. His story reads much like a Hollywood film script itself; after making the decision to follow his dreams of studios as opposed to skies, Mark gave up his flight training on the west coast of America and moved back to the UK to immerse himself in learning every aspect of audio at SAE Institute before accepting a three week job as a runner on a film set. After working flat out for those three weeks, world renowned company Goldcrest turned to him and offered him a permanent job which led to the next ten years of his life nurturing his knowledge and applying his passion to every project.
Letting his passion for audio guide him, he is true testament that with the right work ethic and skills, your imagination can literally take you everywhere that you want to go.
