20 Aug 2018

SAE is thrilled to be welcoming critically-acclaimed Director, Jeremy Podeswa, who will be delivering an exciting Filmmaking masterclass and discussing his impressive career.

SAE’s Director Masterclass with Jeremy Podeswa will take place on Monday 1 October at the Rio Cinema in Dalston, just a short walk from the SAE London campus.

Jeremy is an award-winning Canadian Writer and Director with work that spans across both popular TV and film. Some of his best-known directing credits include Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and Fugitive Pieces. He has also directed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Walking Dead and True Detective. On top of this, he has won multiple awards for his work and has recently been nominated for an Emmy - the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series award for Game of Thrones. With over 30 years experience, Jeremy is a prominent, well-respected figure in the film industry and has plenty of knowledge to share.

We are delighted to collaborate with Jeremy on a very special SAE Extra masterclass which will shed light on his illustrious career. The event will be an onstage interview where audience members will get the opportunity to ask Jeremy questions and get an understanding of what it is truly like to work in the film industry.

Those that attend can expect to discover industry secrets as well as the difficulties in managing high-profile and high-budget productions. There will also be a focus on the major issues that the film industry faces in the current digital age where platforms such as Netflix and Amazon pose potential challenges.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jeremy Podeswa said:

“I’m very much looking forward to the SAE Masterclass, where I’ll be discussing my body of work as a film and television director, and more generally, the creative work of a director in both mediums…working with actors, working on small and large scale productions, putting a script on its feet, working in different genres, etc. Through a guided conversation (illustrated by presentation of video clips) and in dialogue with those attending, all aspects of film and TV directing will be open for discussion.”

SAE is honoured that our students will have the opportunity to learn from Jeremy Podeswa, an established industry professional. As a creative media education institution, we truly appreciate the importance of connecting with the industry and building relationships with creative professionals so that we can enhance our students’ learning experience.

SAE UK Dean, Saad Qureshi commented on the upcoming event:

“I am delighted to have Jeremy visit SAE UK. His reputation is only surpassed by his magic behind the camera. When our students hear from industry figures such as Jeremy, they learn about the challenges and rewards of working in film, directing actors and developing scripts. The small screen has also been reinvigorated thanks to Directors like Jeremy. Having watched all 7 seasons of Game of Thrones, I admit to being star struck. I hold no hopes of a cameo!”
