Foundations in Electronic Music Production


The 12 week course to get your music production skills from zero to sixty in no time.

Utilising our hands-on learning approach you will grasp the core concepts of electronic music production and put them to work making the music you love.

How you learn

Throughout the course you are taught in a practical manner, primarly on Ableton Live (so whether you have a MAC or a PC at home you can put your new found skills into practice straight away). You will also explore other production platforms such as Apple Logic Pro X and have access to our music production labs to train on site with help from our tutors. 

Whether you want to produce House, Techno, Dubstep, Pop, Trance or Hip Hop, you'll learn the techniques, tips and production tricks that will help you make the music you love.

What you will learn

Beat Making/FX

The drums are one of the most important elements of your track, get them wrong and it will throw the feel and vibe completely. Want to create some tension in your track for that ‘hands in the air moment'? No problem, we will show you how to create those epic builds and rises that you hear in modern productions.

  • Learn to create drum patterns
  • Different styles and production techniques
  • Get that punchy drum sound
  • Layer and tune kick drums to get power and drive
  • Swing and Groove Techniques and Drum Fills
  • Use audio loops, MIDI patterns and drum samplers

Sound Design

Do you want to create a huge bass sound or powerful lead, lush pad or epic piano? We will teach you how to not only create your own sounds using synthesis, but how choose the right sounds for your tracks.

  • Learn Sampling techniques to take real world sounds and turn them into your unique sound signature
  • Learn Synthesis to generate your sound, from punchy basslines to synth leads and pads
  • Learn to pick the right sounds for your production


You will learn about track arrangement, which is very important as your productions need to have some form of structure and flow, and the best part is you choose your own genre, House, Techno, Dubstep, Pop, trance, Hip Hop or whatever you feel like!

  • Understand basic music theory to enhance your tracks immensely
  • Learn Chord structure, Key, Tempo, Time signature 
  • Learn Arrangement techniques that not only sounds great but also has a strong musical element to make more professional and appealing to the listener

Mixing and Mastering

Do you listen to your favourite artists and wonder how their tracks sounds so amazing?. Well, let us tell you, It’s not because they use better software or equipment, as most work completely inside a computer or ‘’in the box’’ exactly the same as you. 

  • Understand the process of mixing and mastering
  • Learn to use creative tools such as EQ, Compression, Reverb and delay
  • Learn to get all the elements in your track gel together and complement each other

Promoting and Releasing your music

Ok, so you’ve made a fantastic track, now what? Whether you want to try and get signed to a label, promote your music or release it yourself;

  • Learn about digital distribution and club promotion
  • Techniques to get spotted by record labels
  • Learn about organisations such as PRS/MCPS
  • Learn about copyright and how to monetise your work

The industry can teach you some tough lessons if you don’t have the right knowledge, but don’t worry, we’ve got your back!

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.

English Language not your first language? You will need a qualification

Students applying for short courses (up to 6 months duration) and whose first language is not English will need a qualification that demonstrates competence in English to CEFR level B1.

IELTS (Academic and General) : Minimum 4 in each component Pearson PTE Minimum 36 in each component

Non-EU applicants are advised that the Home Office no longer accept ETS exams as evidence of English language ability. This includes the TOEFL iBT test, provided by ETS.

Students without a formal language qualification will need an interview with the programme leader.

Non UK/EU students will need a student visitor VISA in order to attend the course.

Fees & Funding



All fees are inclusive of VAT. Once you have completed your booking form, we will contact you to arrange payment of a £20% deposit with the remaining balance due two weeks before the start date.

The course opens up the world of electronic music and sound produciton to those that succesfully complete it. 

Careers range from Digital DJs and performers, to music producers, sound designers for film or games and many more. 

Many students opt to further their studies in the field through the Audio Production degree to offer them more career opportunities as well as gain more production skills for the audio production industry.
