SAE Institute New York welcomed
engineer, producer and D.J., Gimel "Young Guru" Keaton, into its doors
to speak to the next generation of musicians, producers and sound
engineers.
Guru went into detail about his journey through the
music industry; talking about his beginnings as a DJ for Nonchalant,
moving to New York and working with Deric "D. Dot" Angelettie, to his
role at Baseline Studios and Roc-A-Fella Records. Guru also talked about
the recording process for Jay-Z's "The Blueprint." Coming up on its 10
year anniversary, "The Blueprint," is considered by many to be a
monumental achievement in Hip-Hop history, launching the careers of Just
Blaze and Kanye West.
Young Guru possesses over a decade of
experience working as a sound engineer, a producer and as an A&R for
Rock-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. His skill-set spans both
far and wide, while he's most recognized for his work with Hip-Hop
icons, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Following his visit, Young Guru left both
students and faculty extremely inspired.
